AirBnB and peer-to-peer economies
This video interview with AirBnB CEO Brian Chesky from GigaOm is 80% about the history of AirBnB to this point. But what got me most excited was the small bit about emerging peer-to-peer economies. Clearly AirBnB sees a whole new economy based on more direction transactions between individuals, and even explicitly said that AirBnB will likely enter an unrelated, non-living space market by the end of the year. He also referenced UberCab multiple times, and had an interesting thought about whether the amateurization of travel and hospitality services was really all that new: it's not, he says. It's the way travel used to be.
